As of June 2009 the organization of the Summer School 2009 in Hanover, Germany, has made fast progress. In the following paragraphs we would like to inform you about our advancements.
Firstly, our website is constantly expanded to provide you with the latest information. You may also sign up for our monthly newsletter. If you have any questions you are also welcome to post them on our new discussion board. We have also updated the Hanover-Section with useful information about Hanover.
So far, we will be supported by the ASNEL/GNEL, the gender equality office of the University of Hanover, the University’s English Department, and the bookshop Lehmanns. At the moment, we are still in search of more sponsors, but are confident in our success.
Regarding the program of the Summer School 2009, we have set up a time table and an evening programme which will include a musical event according to the motto “Africa” with an interactive drum performance. You may find further information on this in the “Students-Section” of our website. Additionally, a list of all offered lectures and seminars is already online including all abstracts.
For the lectures we are proud to tell you that we could successfully win over Carl Plasa from Cardiff University and Tobias Döring from the University of Munich. Furthermore, Prof. Dr. Jana Gohrisch will give the introductory lecture of the Summer School 2009. Prof. Dr. K. H. Stoll from the University of Mainz will give a lecture on “Anglophone Globalisation” (Linguistics) and Dr. Kirsten Rüther from the University of Hanover’s History Department will offer a history lecture.
We will also be able to offer seminars not only on the new literatures in English, but also on linguistic and historical developments of the postcolonial era. Prof. Dr. Andrea Sand from the University of Trier, for instance, will offer a seminar on “World Englishes”. Please check out the “Participants-Section” of our website for further information on the participating academics.
Furthermore, the well-known authors Amma Darko from Ghana and Meja Mwangi from Kenya have confirmed their participation in the Summer School 2009. They will each provide a reading at the bookshop Lehmanns here in Hanover. For further information please visit their official websites or the “Participants-Section” on our website.

We want to thank all of you for having contributed to the successful start of our project. All the ideas, advice, and shared knowledge have been of great help - and will continue to help us - in organizing the Summer School in Hanover.

The Hanover Summer School team is excited about hosting the Summer School 2009 and we look forward to welcoming a diversity of students, writers, and academics.
